All About Me Theme: My Emotions

                                 CIRCLE TIME ACTIVITIES

Children draw a picture of themselves
on a small square piece of paper. They
then stick it on the graph under the
correct emotion and tell the rest of the
class why they feel like that.
Letter sound 'A' flashcard games:
* Sit in a circle. Pass the cards around while music is playing. When
music stops, each child names the picture on the card.
* Place the cards at different spots around the room. Ask one child at
a time to go and find the card the teacher names.
* Place four cards at a time in the pocket chart. Ask children to close
their eyes. take away one card. Children open their eyes and name
the missing card.


Change the Helping Hand classroom jobs each Monday. Teacher holds
the craft sticks with the children's names on it. Show the children their
names and ask each child to choose a job. Place name in correct
Helping Hand pocket. Find the printable jobs in my store at:

More Circle Time Activities

* Children sit on the carpet. Ask everyone to close their eyes, then throw a sheet or blanket over one child. Ask everyone else to open their eyes. The other children have to guess who is under the sheet.
Continue until all children had a go.

* Give each child a hand mirror. Name a feeling and ask them to pull that face looking in the mirror. They can even draw the emotions they show on the mirror with white board markers.

* Place one feeling flashcard on the board e.g. the Happy flashcard. Ask the card: 'Happy face, happy face, what do you see? I see an (angry) face looking at me.' Place the angry flashcard next to it. Continue with all the feeling flashcards.

Continue with:
If you're angry and you know it stamp your feet
If you're sad and you know it touch your nose
If you're silly and you know it turn around
If you're happy and you know it shout hooray.
Ask children to think of other emotions and actions that will go with it. 

                          

                                      LITERACY ACTIVITIES

Read the book 'Glad Monster, Sad Monster' by Ed Emberley.
Discuss all the emotions in the story by asking the children why
the monster might be feeling that way. Ask children to show each
emotion as the story is read.

'My Feelings' book. Ask each child what makes them sad, happy,
angry, excited etc. Children draw 3 pictures of each emotion and
tell the teacher what makes them feel these emotions. Teacher
